Seventeen and Still Sweet as Ever

Who says teenagers have to be difficult?

Well, whoever it was sure didn't know Graci!

She was by far the worst baby ever.  She cried more than we thought humanly possible.  Day and night.  Night and day.  Probably because it was 100 degrees that July, just like this year, but we didn't have ANY air conditioning.  So we all wanted to cry, too.  But once she grew out of it (which took a few years) and we got AC (which helped), she was the easiest little kid possible.  She still apologizes for being such a bad baby... if that gives you any idea about how sweet she is now.  And how considerate.  She's always been quiet and a little bit shy, but also an avid reader and letter-writer.  She's so thoughtful and kind.  She still writes us sweet little notes for our birthdays and other special occasions.  She even writes them to her siblings.

Just because some people don't talk a lot sure doesn't mean that they aren't full of thoughts.  That's how Graci is.  She's got lots of ideas and opinions and beliefs that are firmly in place.  Good luck getting her to change her mind!  And that actually gives us parents great comfort knowing that she is a wall, not a door.  That's part of the reason why we took her to Claire's on her birthday and let her get that new little piercing.  It was a surprise for a daughter that we are very proud of.

If she be a wall, We will build upon her a turret of silver: And if she be a door, We will inclose her with boards of cedar.  Song of Solomon 8:9

Happy Birthday, Grace Elizabeth.  You are a treasure and a blessing!
